About Me

As an Emmy, Telly, and CINE Award-winning director and cinematographer, I’ve been fortunate to shoot internationally-distributed feature films, dozens of national television commercials, music videos, and documentaries in over 35 countries.

My clients include Disney, NBC/Universal, National Geographic, McDonald’s, Toyota, Scion, Microsoft, and Paul Mitchell, with narrative work screened at Sundance, Slamdance, and South by Southwest film festivals as well as on Netflix and on all broadcast networks.

As a director and cinematographer, I bring over 25 years of production experience to ensure your production is on time, on budget, and looks beautiful.

As a marketing supervisor for McDonald’s Restaurant Corporation, I was given the responsibility to create a moving, impactful video for 350 restaurants. So who was the first person I called? Jason Tomaric.

He did an outstanding, professional job for us quickly and on budget. The McDonald’s management was impressed!

I’ve always been passionate about teaching, and because the film industry is notoriously difficult to break into, I developed FilmSkills – a comprehensive online training program designed to help aspiring filmmakers learn the skills needed to succeed in the film industry.

I partnered with over 125 Hollywood filmmakers who have collectively won, or been nominated for, 72 Academy Awards, Emmys, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes to produce 326 on-set video tutorials that guide you through every step of the filmmaking process.

Film schools around the world have adopted my filmmaking curriculum at FilmSkills-Academic.com, which includes assignable projects, over 4,000 test questions, and a range of classroom management tools.

I’ve also written 8 text books, which thoroughly cover the entire filmmaking process. Used in film schools and available in bookstores, I teach a real-world approach to filmmaking, from the technical process to the art of creating emotion on screen.

“As a director, Jason Tomaric brings three important things to the table… creativity, organization and value.

His shoot days run like clockwork, and when Jason works within a budget, that doesn’t mean cutting back on quality…he finds a way to bring the most to a project for the money.”
